Social Media-A place where people can help people

image

HootSuite posted a blog post entitled 6 Ways Social Media Helps People Help People.  The article talks about ways social media brings people together by providing hope and inspiration and how it can provide an outlet for the helpers to get help in spreading a message.

With all the tragic events happening, it’s nice to see people coming together and opening up their homes and providing donations.  The sense of togetherness has been so strong over the past few days, and it’s inspiring to see the light shine inside communities.  Watching people continue to post inspirational messages and offer ways to cope is definitely melting my heart and is also a prime example of how social media can be used in a way that actually connects people on a digital scale and builds connectedness through the internet.

If you have time, check out the HootSuite article to see several videos that truly demonstrate the heartfelt side of social media.  There is a video about one man’s personal recovery process that is truly moving.  Although it seems like social media can provide the exact opposite at times, it can, on a very rare occasion, provide genuine comfort; like a digital “Snuggie” if you will.

My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families of the Boston Race and West Texas Explosion.
